Performs supportive activities such as inventory and stocking of respiratory supplies needed for the respiratory department as well as designated units
· Keeps an inventory of respiratory items in the department.
· Responsible for the administration of all types of mechanical ventilation including BiPAP, CPAP, High Frequency Oscillatory ventilation.
· Responsible for Various types of aerosolized medication therapies including continuous nebulization therapy.
· Performs sputum induction/collection and be responsible for the delivery of respiratory services to patients, including all types of chest physical therapy/postural drainage (manual and mechanical percussion).
· Performs Arterial blood gas punctures as requested.
· Manages artificial airways; suctioning of airways, mechanical ventilation management; participation in resuscitative efforts; assist in intubations.
· Performs ABG sample analysis, transmittal of results, and billing information utilizing designated computer software programs.
· Responsible for the appropriate assembly, cleaning/sterilizing and processing of respiratory equipment and devices as well as minor maintenance.
· Performs patient assessments, therapeutic modalities, and documentation associated with departmentally established protocols (e.g. Conversion from Small Volume Nebulizer to MDI Protocol).
· As a member of the Cardio pulmonary resuscitation and Rapid Response Team, he/she provides a clinical respiratory assessment of the patient and make appropriate respiratory interventional recommendations as the patient’s condition warrants.
· Responsible for adhering to hospital and departmental policies/procedures/protocols.
· Plans and provides health education to patients and relatives.
· Provides cardiopulmonary instruction/education to patients, patient’s family and /or caregivers as needed in the areas of basic education in disease/illness processes, interventional techniques, and/or treatment modalities designed for disease management.
· Participates in In-service education programs.
· Provides respiratory in-service training to nursing personnel.
· Completes Competency Assessment for self.
· Takes part in training and Staff Development Program.
· Responsible for the appropriate recording of respiratory services provided to patients.
· Reports Critical Patient’s condition to concerned person in verbal and written.
· Responsible for the accurate and complete documentation of all patient charges (treatments, equipment, and oxygen usage).
· Records and Reports any losses and breakage in the unit.
· Ability to communicate with patient & their relative’s needs (Ability to listen).
· Ability to explain & clarify doubts of the patient & their relatives.
· To be able to coordinate & work with multi-ethnic workforce.
· Ability to coordinate & with billing & other departments.
· Answering queries & telephone calls.
· Ability to communicate patient’s complaints to concerned authority & solve patient’s problem.
· Document in detail & inform team- members of any unusual event.
· Maintain the communication book.
· Ability to handle anxious relative’s by giving information about the time/length of operation.
· Inform patient’s relatives sitting in the Companion room about operation progress.
